How WeWatch works
Watching videos with friends, in four steps. One person pauses — everyone pauses. The web version works in browsers on iPhone, Android and desktop; native mobile apps are in development.
- 1

- 2

- 3

Watch in sync
Your friend taps the link and playback synchronizes. Pause, seek and playback speed apply to everyone at once.
How WeWatch synchronization works
WeWatch does not promise zero latency. It compensates for different network speeds with a shared server timeline and automatically corrects material playback drift.
- Shared timestamp
- Play, pause and seek commands are scheduled for one future server timestamp instead of executing as soon as each device receives them.
- Clock alignment
- Each client measures its clock offset from the server NTP-style through a WebSocket ping/echo exchange.
- Automatic correction
- A periodic heartbeat compares the client position with the room position and corrects drift beyond 500 ms.
500 ms is the correction threshold, not a guarantee of network latency or permanent drift below 500 ms. Buffering, ads and source restrictions can still occur.
- Maximum room participants
- 10
- Inactive minutes before room closure
- 10
